On the whole, I’d rather be in Philadelphia.
Clawing one’s way back from true flu — not some cheap knock-off made in a sweatshop in Queens — takes time. On my examination yesterday, I was prescribed bed rest, fluids, Tylenol and no more than an hour of work per day until Monday. All of which is to say that if you’re distressed by lack of posting, I have a note signed by a doctor. I’ll make it up to you later, I swear. Meantime it’s time to hit the feathers. – J
Stop worrying about us, Joe, and get some rest!
Joe,
I’ve been a lurker for a while now but I have to come out to wish you a speedy recovery. I hope you are taking that 1-hour work per day seriously.
Thanks so much, Cynthia! I’m trying, but it’s tough. There’s always so much to do. But I’m giving myself permission to slack as best I can!
Cheers,
– Joe
Seriously, stay in bed and do nothing! I had pertussis last year and, I swear, it could have killed me. Being really sick is no small thing. (And I do know you know that, but I’m somebody’s mother.)
I shall do my best, K. Thanks!
And you get lots of sympathy from me for the pertussis. Coughing is something I hate to do more than just about anything. What a nasty thing to get!
Back to bed,
– Joe
Take care Joe and get well soon.
Thanks, Bev!

There’s nothing like rest for the flu. The last time I had it, it felt like a herd of buffaloes had done a 24 hour stampede over me.
Yeah and it goes on and on and on…that’s the depressing part! I want this to end already!
– Joe
Get well soon, the flu can really knock you over and rest will surely help you recover.
Take care
Thanks, Melody!

Love your blog and so sorry to hear that you are sick. I thought the first part of this article from the NY Times might interest you as you recover. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/08/dining/gluten-free-ramen-pullet-eggs-and-more.html?src=recg
Only in New York could a shop that makes only cannelés survive!
I’d be curious to taste them of course! The savory ones are a fun idea as well. I do miss New York. Hope to get back there soon!
Cheers,
– Joe
Hey, no knocking Philadelphia, even if you are sick! We boo Santa Claus and all that, don’t ya know?
Can I help it if I’m a W.C Fields fan? Chalk it up to dementia, cool?
– Joe
I hope you feel better. My (young) daughter is in daycare and bringing home every bug…so I relate in not feeling well.
On a fun note, I saw this and thought, “wow, that is just cool.” I hope it brings you a bit of wonder amidst the sickness:

That was not an inexpensive commercial!
Very neat. Thanks, Derek!

I don’t believe I have ever heard of a pastry that claims to be a home remedy for the flu. (hint hint, future research)
But I do know that a shot of single malt and a spoonful of honey mixed together with a half cup or so of almost boiling water will chase your ills away. How far they are chased or where those ills go, is anyone’s guess.
I hope you are feeling better soon!
You’re Irish like my grandmother, I’m betting. That was her cure to a T!
I’m better now finally. Thanks for the concern!
