Next Up: Savarins
I was about to light out for China this week, but since we’re getting into berry season here in the Northern Hemisphere it seemed to make sense to remain in France a bit longer and do these seasonal classics. Reader Bronwyn, I promise to get to the fried dough next!
You guys have berries already?
No, but the really good strawberries are starting to come up from Florida. That gives me the comforting illusion that they’re almost here. 😉

Sorry–I’m a berry snob from Oregon though I will admit I got some pretty decent strawberries at Trader Joe’s the other day…even if they were from California. Mine, in my own patch, and the local ones blow them away but that’s a few weeks off. Glad to know we aren’t getting beat in KY.
Ooooooo, Savarin!!! The first time I made one of these, I loved it so much I went on to make it over and over again that summer while the fresh fruit lasted. I must have made ten or so that season, and still love them. Fresh fruit, brioche, rum and heavy cream, a few of my favorite things 🙂
Uh, no idea how all those exclamation points ended up after my name… so sorry.
I figured you were just excited about the whipped cream. 😉
