So it’s come to this…

Things are tough all over these days. Cash-strapped governments everywhere are looking for new revenue sources wherever they can find them. That’s understandable to a point. But a pasty tax? That’s simply going too far. Let it be know that the Joe Pastry community stands firmly behind Mid Cornwall MP Stephen Gilbert in his effort to prevent this outrage. We also award him extra style points for his classy reference to one of Churchill’s greatest speeches. Go Gilbert! And thanks to reader Stephanie for the tip!

  1. That is a shame! I have only had pasties in the U.P. of Michigan, but I am thankful of the immigrants of Cornwall for bringing those tasty things over. I’m so happy to have found a recipe for U.P. Pasties since I don’t live there and don’t have to pay that extra tax.

    I laughed so hard when I read the title “So it’s come to this…”. I recently adopted that phrase after reading a comic at the xkcd website, I’ve been trying to use it often and applaud your use. Aside from the phrase… I love a good pasty, and I make them occasionally for the family. I haven’t found a really good dough recipe to use though as it needs to be hearty to hold all the goodness, but still be flaky and tender. What’s with these taxes on deliciousness anyways? First Danish butter, now Cornish pasties! What’s next? Belgian Chocolate? Gasp!!
