For the next couple of days we’ll be talking shortbread. It’s a project that’s been on my to-do list for quite a while, though I moved it up after an urgent request for a tutorial came in last week. Shortbread is another very simple preparation, one that’s mostly taken for granted now. These days come Christmas, few people will go out of their way to eat a piece of plain shortbread because oh, it’s so buttery, then go reach for a piece of peanut butter fudge pie. Maybe it’s my old Scottish roots, but I think there’s nothing like a well-prepared piece of shortbread and a nice hot cup of tea on a cold winter’s afternoon. Sure, today it’s going to be 93 in Louisville, but just go along with me on this, OK? I’m trying to set a mood.
