And yes, I’ll have fries with that.
Seems Louisville made national news last week and I didn’t even know it. Not that the mayor was exactly crowing about it, you understand. According to a national survey, Louisville residents ranked second (just behind the inhabitants of Birmingham, Alabama) in fast food consumption, averaging just under 6.5 visits to a fast food franchise per person per week. But then what’s half a visit if you don’t mind my asking? When you think about it but don’t actually go? Or maybe when you order a Happy Meal but they forget to put in the fries.
Anyway, when you consider that Americans as a group consume more fast food than anyone else in the world, that’s a pretty impressive achievement. Had I not examined the results, I’d have thought the extra quickie meals could be attributed to the fact that so many fast food restaurants are headquartered here, from Papa John’s Pizza to Yum! Brands, a gigantic local enterprise that runs A&W, KFC, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s and Taco Bell. But it turns out that the number one destination for the Louisville citizenry is in fact McDonald’s. How’s that for adding insult to injury?
Anyway, should you be interested you can read all about it at the local newspaper’s site here. And why wouldn’t you be? You can catch up on all the local news while you’re there…see how the 64 expansion project is going. Oh and by the way, know which food “contest” Louisvillians are truly number one in? The consumption of Campbell’s soup.
