Time for the Taste
Ah, the Taste of Chicago. I may be a Lousiville native now, but that can’t erase my sense of nostalgia for all those wonderful years sweating my money away at the Taste. It’s an event that harkens back to the bread and circuses days of the Byrne administration, when more and more public fairs masked an almost complete dearth of substantive leadership. But man was the food good. Once the Taste was a showcase for the odd and unexpected. I remember my first year as middle schooler, trying goat kabobs for the first time, and then there was Binyon’s turtle soup. These days it’s mostly tiny servings of ribs and slices of pizza (eight dollars each), but I’d still go if I could. Hell, maybe I will. Have you seen Millennium Park yet?
