Putty in My Hands
Got an email asking what fondant is. Basically, it’s sugar putty. A soft, all-sugar candy that you can form into various shapes, or roll out into sheets. It can be colored and/or flavored in just about any way you can think of. Cake makers roll it into sheets and drape it over cakes to give them a totally-smooth appearance. You can buy it in bakery or candy-making supply stores, or you can make your own (though you need a couple odd igredients). Most bakeries buy it, in big 25- or 50-pound blocks.
Oh, and it’s pronounced FON-dant.
