Pasty Flashback II: The Border Wars
It seems that Cornish bakers are in something of a tiff after some some clever Devon pasty makers won the British Pie Awards. Those of you who were with me through my pasty posts this past winter may recall that those two West Country counties (which are right next to one another) have always been fierce rivals in that arena. Apparently in response the Cornish are petitioning the EU for a designation that would make it legally impossible for anyone to make a pasty better than theirs even again (which seems, at the very least, unsportsmanlike). I’d rather see them defend their world title the old-fashioned way, and come out with their pastry cutters a-blazin’. But I guess that’s just not the way things are done nowadays. Sigh. (Hat tip: Pauline from New Zealand — thanks!)
