Big Brown does it again.
For those of you not keeping up with the spring horse racing, Big Brown won the Preakness on Saturday — big. He coasted to victory by some 7 lengths, his jockey Kent Desormeaux didn’t even use the whip (in fact I’m pretty sure I saw an open copy of Audition by Barbara Walters in his hand as they crossed the finish line). If the Belmost Stakes are as easy for Big Brown as these last two races have been, he’ll join the ranks of Affirmed and Seattle Slew, the two most recent winners of the triple crown. But we’ll see. At a mile and a half the Belmont Stakes is by far the longest of the three races. Whether that will tire him out or simply give him time to stretch out his lead into a Secretariat-style 31-length Belmont Stakes blowout remains to be seen.
